Four dental vans worth over $100,000 each have been donated for use in the Solomon Islands. These vans will belong to the Solomon Island Mission.
One van that has dental chair, x-ray equipment and that is fully operational will be located at Atoifi Adventist Hospital (AAH) which is recognised as the premier healthcare provider on that island. A lack of facilities means that AAH has been unable to provide dental services for years. This will be a great addition to the hospital and the community. The three other vans will be loaned to the Government Hospital in Honiara until their new dental clinic is built. Then they will be relocated to strategic places in the Solomon Islands. We have a Memorandum of Understanding in relationship to this arrangement.
Although the vans are a gift to the Church we have the responsibility to transport them to the Solomon Islands by ship. Shipping costs for the four fully equipped dental vans, from Brisbane to Honiara alone is costing approximately $15,000 each. Then we need to trans-ship one to Atoifi which will cost extra.
So we need help financially. Currently the vans are parked at our Campground in Queensland and must be gone by mid August when they begin to prepare for their annual Camp. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
