Pathfinders

Pathfinders is an activity based organisation especially designed for 10 – 15 year olds. It is an international uniformed organisation that is sponsored by the local Seventh-day Adventist churches, and operated by trained volunteers.

The program aids in the development of leadership and positive group skills, teamwork and fun problem solving experiences. With a focus on developing skills in outdoor and environmental issues through practical camping, hiking, nature study and other outdoor adventure activities. Exposing those involved to a wide range of skills, crafts, arts and other practical skills. Teaching the awareness of joy in serving others and the understanding of opportunities within community needs in addition encouraging a good healthy lifestyle that says no to any drugs or any other harmful substances.

Adventurers Club

Adventurers is a fun club especially for children aged 6–9. In the our Conference the program has been extended to children aged 4-5. The program provides a fun environment in which children and parents can participate in building life-long memories.

Overview

The Pathfinder club provides a church-centred spiritual-recreational program designed for junior and teens which appeals to this age group because its program features activities that meet their needs and interests. It is filled with action, adventure, challenge and group activities while providing opportunities for the development of new attitudes and skills that produce personal growth, team spirit and a sense of loyalty and respect for God, His creation and His church. While the Pathfinder club exists primarily for juniors and teens, one of its basic purposes is to also bring together parents and church members through active involvement with the club and its members. Here, the so-called generation gap disappears as young and old worship, work and play together in a bond of common experience. Meaningful relationships are forged as leaders and counsellors join with Pathfinders in sharing, building confidence and working together.

The whole philosophy of Pathfindering is built on the premise that children learn best by example rather than commands. As they see leader and parents model spiritual and social values, they too will aspire to develop high moral principles, loving and caring attitudes, and determination to excel in all their various pursuits.

Foremost, the ideals and objectives of the Seventh-day Adventist Church are taught through an active learning program which appeals to this age group and their learning style.

Curriculum

Three Pathfinder curricula are in use across the South Pacific Division. The choice to use either of these depends on the particular needs of the club as well as the preference of the club director and conference/mission.

Standard Curriculum

The standard curriculum is otherwise known as the traditional card system. The curriculum is divided into 6 age-specific classes.

Friend – 10 years old
Companion – 11 years old
Explorer – 12 years old
Ranger – 13 years old
Voyager – 14 years old
Guide – 15 years old

Each class program is developed for the special needs of that age group and is self-contained, with requirements in the areas of spiritual, physical, history, nature and outdoor skills. Classes or individuals may also choose to complete extra requirements to achieve an advanced level.
