Dr Malcolm Coulson has joined the Greater Sydney Conference as the new Principal of Hills Adventist College. Dr Coulson has worked extensively in education in a variety of roles. He commenced teaching in the Queensland State system. His area of specialty is in Science – biology, chemistry and general science. He first worked for Adventist Education at Longburn College in New Zealand.
Returning to Australia, he went to Mackay Adventist school where he started as a Science teacher and then was appoint- ed Principal. Following this Dr Coulson spent seven years at Avondale College as a lecturer, followed by two years as edu- cation director in NNSW. During his time at Avondale College, he completed his PhD at Newcastle University in the area of teacher effectiveness and how to help teachers’ thinking and behaviour to improve student learning.
After taking a 12-month break from church employment, he returned to Avondale College as a lecturer, secondary course coordinator and then as Vice President for Learning and Teaching.
Dr Coulson left Avondale College to take up the role as principal and Science teacher at Darling Downs Christian School in Toowoomba, Qld. Following this, he was appointed education director of the South Pacific Division and served for two years in that role. Most recently, Dr Coulson was the principal of Edinburgh College (formerly Lilydale Academy) in Victoria where he led for the past four years.
Malcolm and his wife Marcia enjoy riding motorbikes, travel- ing, and especially 4-Wheel Driving. He also enjoys photography. They have a blended family of five, most of whom are married, and have five grandchildren.
Dr Coulson brings with him a wealth of experience gained from all levels of education. He will be a strong asset to the continuing growth of Hills Adventist College.
