On Sunday 10 August 2014, 80,000 runners and walkers met for City2Surf, the annual 14k event, which stretches from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach in Sydney. But it was a group of Pathfinders from Wahroonga and Sharon Duncan, a runner from Castle Hill church that made a big impact for ADRA Blacktown.
David Savage, Pathfinder Director of Wahroonga Pathfinders, said the event got off to an early and cold start but the efforts to finish raised over $3,200 and the Club is hoping to continue collecting funds. Wahroonga Pathfinders had 6 runners, 8 walkers and 26 volunteers participating.
Similarly, through her efforts, Sharon Duncan was successful in raising $866, which will go towards the ongoing functioning of ADRA Blacktown.
Greater Sydney Conference ADRA director, Malcolm Rea showed his appreciation by saying, “This is a truly monumental effort! Many people will be blessed at the ADRA Community Centre at Blacktown because of this great team effort!”
ADRA Blacktown, the recipients of the funds raised, is a not-for-profit organisation offering free counselling and general support services to individuals and families in Western Sydney. They are part of the broader ADRA Australia network of projects present in Australia and internationally.
