Hills Adventist College Year 4 student, Jonathan Reid, recently competed at the NSW Little Athletics State Championships. Jonathan qualified through the regionals to earn a place to compete in the 60 metre hurdles, 200 metre sprint, and long jump.

There are eight regions in NSW and the top two athletes from each event qualify for State Championships, as well as the next eight best scores from across the State.  In total, there are 24 competitors in each event.

In the 60 metre hurdles heat, Jonathan ran a personal best (PB) of 9.96 seconds to make the final, in which he came fourth.  In the 200 metre heat, Jonathan also ran a PB of 30.66 seconds, coming in fifth. He missed out on the final but was first reserve in the event someone didn’t turn up. As it happened, one of the boys did not show up, so Jonathan got to run, coming fourth, with another PB of 30.46 seconds.

Jonathan’s best event was the long jump. He jumped 4.20 metres on his first jump, another PB, winning his first gold medal at State level.  Jonathan is now the Under 9 Boys State Long Jump Champion for 2013.
