On 12-16 January, 2014, climbers will have the opportunity to climb one of New Zealand’s best known mountain, Mount Taranaki.

“Greater Sydney is providing a limited number of hikers with an opportunity to climb one of the world’s most beautiful mountains and support an ADRA project in Sydney,” says ADRA Director, Mr Malcolm Rea.

“People seem to want to test themselves with real challenges. Ask someone to do something that is relatively easy or manageable and the interest level may be weak; however, ask them to do something challenging and they rise to the occasion.”

Participant will need to raise a minimum of $2,000 for one of the three Sydney-based ADRA projects in order to participate in this adventure. Extra costs include travelling costs to-and-from New Plymouth plus $500 towards local logistic. The four-day hike will commence on Monday, 13 January at Oakura beach and proceed over the Kaitaki and Pouakai ranges before the final ascend to the summit on Thursday, 16 January.

As participation will be limited, Mr Rea is encouraging people to get in contact with him fairly quickly. “This is a rare opportunity to support ADRA’s desperate beneficiaries, make new friends and see NZ stretched out below your feet,” says Mr Rea.
